Neon Arena game

This game is a quick and repeatable playtest scenario for the QUANTUM DAWN science fiction setting and its IMMERSIVE DICE TTRPG system currently being developed. It is meant for 2-6 players with no Gamemaster required.

Play to be victorious in a combat-focused free-for-all elimination fight. The last character remaining wins all the glory and memes.

Main concepts

  • Premade characters are distilled to their minimal attributes, skills and unique loadout of equipment.

  • The core resolution mechanic requires only one dice pool roll per action while providing initiative order, degree of success outcome, hit/miss and damage. Actions are resolved quickly. Direct number comparisons are favored. Additions and multiplications are simple. Table lookup is kept to a minimum. Subtraction and divisions are entirely avoided.

  • The combat is fast-paced and exciting. It allows for thrilling actions such as dodging and parrying.

Scenario

After you connect to the Neon Arena matchmaking lobby, you find yourself in a cylindrical capsule. It is made of some electrochromic transparent material and lit from its floor. Through the blurry glass, across a large empty space, you can see other bright capsules evenly distributed around the edge of darkness.

Suddenly, you hear the Arena Master’s loud synthetic voice: “TOUCH THE GLASS TO START”

After the players have completed the character selection process the Arena Master is heard again: “PREPARATIONS COMPLETED. ENTRY SEQUENCE INITIATED”

Several metallic compartments around you start to shift open, granting you access to your equipment. Meanwhile, the capsules start moving up in synchronicity along an elevator shaft. Above you, through the clear glass ceiling, a night sky appears as the elevator reaches the arena grounds. The capsule comes to a stop. All around, the bleachers are filled with indistinct spectating silhouettes resoundingly cheering. The circular arena has a diameter of 60 meters and is solely illuminated by the stars and the capsule floors. A total of 6 perfectly smooth glass capsules are evenly distributed in a circle. Each one stands 4 meters high and 10 meters away from the arena wall. The maximum distance between opposing elevator capsules is 40 meters and the minimum distance between the next closest elevator capsules is approximately 20 meters.

The Arena Master’s voice echoes one more time: “ENTRY SEQUENCE COMPLETED. THE ONE SURVIVOR WINS. BEGIN!”

The capsule’s glass doors suddenly slide to the sides, opening towards the center of the arena and leaving no cover.
